With Ghana crushing all hopes of 3rd place for Ivory coast, Cameroon takes on Egypt today Sunday 10th. Each side has something to boast about if they win.
A win for Egypt will see Shehata join a rare club of coaches that have won back-to-back titles. The Egyptians are also aiming to add to their record five-title haul after capturing the continental trophy in 1957, 1959, 1986, 1998 and 2006. While Cameroon are four-times winners, celebrating victory in 1984, 1988, 2000 and 2002.
Should Cameroon win Sunday's final of the Africa Cup of Nations, they will justifiably be able to lay claim to being the continent's most successful football nation. And indeed, leveling with the Pharaohs on five African crowns apiece, yet Cameroon can back up those titles with other feats. Cameroon is one of just two African countries to have reached the last eight of the World Cup, having done so in 1990, they are also the only one to have appeared at five World Cup finals. Furthermore, Cameroon has also won Olympic gold, triumphing in dramatic style against Spain at Sydney 2000.
So the only thing missing from any Indomitable Lions fan's argument about their team is the right to say no one else has won more Nations Cups.
At the age of 31, captain Rigobert Song has played more Nations Cup matches than anyone in history and will be ... Read more »
OLPC XO-1: the $200 laptop for the developing world
It has taken more than two years, but the One Laptop per Child
initiative has finally released its much-anticipated laptop: the OLPC
XO-1. The XO-1 costs $200 each to donate, but for a limited time—until
December 31, 2007—people can avail themselves of the "Give One, Get
One" promotion to give a $399 donation ($200 of which is
tax-deductible): One laptop goes to a disadvantaged child in a
developing nation, while OLPC gives you another one as a thank-you gift
of sorts. (Think: PBS pledge drive, where they offer a gift to you of a
DVD set for a $200 donation). This is certainly a different business
model in this "me, me, me" holiday season: Instead of buying something
for yourself, you buy technology for a child who needs it, with a
fringe benefit of a gift laptop for your household. Just be advised,
this limited-time offer is the only way you'll be able to get your
hands on the XO-1 for the foreseeable future. After the end of the
year, people can still donate the laptops, but they won't be getting
one as a gift.
Hello People! ZASU is drafting a new constitution to be adopted at the AGM of ZASU soon! so,check the site daily for latest updates! Anybody wishing to check out the Zambian constitution? Click here
The ZASU committee writes to inform you that each member of the union
is supposed to pay an annual subscription fee of 40 US dollars. You have to
realize that, by virtue of you being a student from Zambia, you are
automatically a member of this union. The monies will be paid
biannually, i.e. two times in a year. Each time, a member is supposed
to pay 20 US dollars. It was decided that the monies will be deducted
directly from the students’ top-up allowances in January and September.
If you are in agreement with this arrangement, you will be required to
write your name and sign in the provided spaces below. The names will
later be submitted to the accountant at the Embassy.
The ZASU committee is intent on creating a fund that will serve the following purposes:
1.Organizing Independence Day celebrations
Bearing in mind that there is no guarantee as to whether the
students will be invited for these celebrations anymore, the student
committee decided that we, the students, should start organizing these
celebrations on our own. This will be the clear manifestation of our
patriotism. If the Ambassador consents to our request, we will be using
the embassy premises as the venue for these celebrations.
2.Organizing meetings
During the course of the year, the student committee will be organizing two
meetings, at which ALL the union members will be expected to attend. As
