Delegations have come and gone, questions have
been asked, requests made, and resolutions proposed. Feedbacks are been
received - positive and negative.
My only fear is that the negatives are
beginning to out weigh the positives. Meetings are now turning into
formalities. One week after the last meeting, no information on our allowances.
One wonders whether what was promised was just sweat talk or a reality. I must
say that a lot was promised- ranging from accommodation to allowances.
Looking at the time of the year and location, I
thank God that we have managed to survive to this day. Most, if not all,
students sponsored by the bursaries’ committee come from poor families. Thus,
fully dependent on government allowances. Some students will soon be
graduating. Examinations are around the corner, if not already in process. I do
believe that there was something called a budget presented to parliament this
year and an amount allocated to us.
UNZA and CBU students have had their demands at
most times met through demonstrations and boycotts. We, on the other hand, have
always put down our issues over the discussion table. For that, salute ourselves.
But the main question still remains hanging over us. What is the way forward ladies
and gentlemen? Is there any light at the end of the tunnel? |
